Some Thoughts from the Editor

Soccer coaching is not just about going through a set of exercises; it is more complex than that. As well as the physical aspect there is -- in many ways -- the more important aspect of the player's mentality. There are many gifted young players out there, who, when they play in a competitive match never seem to play to their full potential. And yet, there are less-gifted players who can go out and perform consistently at a more effective level than their more-talented counterpart. This can usually be traced back to the mentality of the players.

So you, as a coach, must always be aware that you have the power to destroy a player's confidence, as well as to raise him, or her, to great hights. The environment that you engender should be such, that your charges -- particularly the young ones -- should not be afraid to make mistakes. Only in this way can you build their confidence, not only in themselves, but in you also.
